Zusammenfassung: | An exploration of the economic origins of the Polish crisis of 1980/81. The USSR imposed a centrally planned economy on Poland after the Yugoslav crisis. Under this economy, numerous imbalances in development occurred, especially between industry & agriculture. Workers also saw themselves as oppressed by being subjected to central planning. The economic crisis of the late 1970s worsened the situation, especially by creating a need to raise food prices. The Wc turned to self-organization after recognizing that the central planning system & the Communist Party could not be trusted to administer the productive system to their benefit. 7 Tables, 41 References.
