Adolescent Unwed Motherhood: Implications for a National Family Policy

Out-of-wedlock pregnancies among adolescents from impoverished families and the decision of these girls to have their babies rather than to seek an abortion represent an adaptation to the circumstances of poverty. The authors contend that a national family policy might help some of these girls avoid out-of-wedlock pregnancy and childbearing.
