A method for the simultaneous determination of systemic and pulmonary circulation times

A method for the determination of the circulation time, using a solution of sulfur (Intra-sul) as the testing substance, is reported. The main advantage of this method is that both “arm-to-lung” and “arm-to-tongue” circulation times may be estimated by a single intravenous injection. It is noteworthy that this method allows subjective and objective observation of the “arm-to-lung” time. The method has been used on over 200 patients without any serious side reactions, and with a minimum of discomfort to the patient. The results of the Intra-sul test on fifteen normal individuals and on fifty-five patients with various illnesses are reported, together with a comparison of ether and Decholin with the Intra-sul tests. The findings show that the results with Intra-sul are comparable with those obtained with ether and Decholin. The test is relatively simple and can be performed as part of an office procedure.
