Zusammenfassung: | One aspect of axoplasmic flow, the saltatory movement of spherical particles and mitochondria within severed peripheral nerves, can be observed directly by Nomarski differential interference microscopy. The movements occur at both ‘rapid’ and ‘slow’ rates. They are predominantly proximodistal but retrograde motion also occurs. The phenomenon requires oxygen and warmth. Metabolic inhibitors affect the visible movements and the migration of radioactively labeled protein similarly. |
