Zusammenfassung: | Mortality for elective splenectomy in children with congenital hemolytic anemia and idiopathic thrombocytopenia may be expected to be less than 1%. The mortality is higher in those children with the most serious primary diseases and highest among the youngest patients with urgent indications for surgery. Overwhelming infection as a cause of late mortality was unusual in the older children without a serious underlying systemic disease. |
