Zusammenfassung:A simple method has been devised for separating the carbohydrate components of the organic framework of bone into two distinct fractions. The method involves alcohol fractionation of a neutralized sodium hydroxide extract. An acid mucopolysaccharide fraction was obtained from 63% alcohol (Fraction I), and is tentatively considered to be chondroitin sulfate. A hitherto undescribed fraction was obtained at 84% alcohol (Fraction II) which contains fucose, galactose, mannose, and glucosamine. The method is capable of general application to other types of connective tissue derivatives.
