Zusammenfassung:Treatment of HeLa cells with p-fluorophenylalanine (PFPA) leads to increased duration of metaphase. Cells treated during the last 6 hours of interphase with 10 mM PFPA suffer prolonged and possibly irreversible blockage when they arrive at metaphase even though the analog is no longer present in the medium. PFPA treatment also induces some instability and structural abnormalities in the mitotic spindle which are observed when the mitotic cell is exposed to conditions used for isolating the spindle.
