Prognostic Factors in Epidermoid Carcinoma of the Vulva

To determine factors affecting prognosis in invasive epidermoid carcinoma of the vulva, 164 patients were reviewed. The clinical and histologic status of the inguinal nodes as well as the extent of neoplastic involvement of anatomy adjacent to the lesion were of primary significance. Pelvic lymphadenectomy was less reliable in determining the outcome of therapy. The need for proper selection of patients for this procedure was reaffirmed. Although the status of Cloquet's node as well as the size and histologic type of the primary tumor were also important in determining prognosis, the gross configuration of the lesion was not significant.
