Zusammenfassung:Experiments were performed to determine the site of degradation of radioiodinated serum low density lipoprotein (I 125-LDL). Estrogen treatment, which was found to result in near absence of LDL in adult male rats, was employed for comparison with the normal catabolic system. Differences were noted between normal and estrogen-treated rats regarding kinetics of disappearance of I 125-LDL from the serum. In situ perfused livers from normal rats were found to take up and degrade I 125-LDL; both processes were accelerated in perfused livers from estrogen-treated rats. The liver is proposed as a major site of I 125-LDL uptake and degradation.
