Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans Pneumonia

Infections caused by Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans are rare. The authors were confronted with an unusual, chronic pneumonia in a previously healthy teenage male. Successful resolution of this patient's disease was not accomplished until lung biopsy revealed A. actinomycetemcomitans and prolonged antibiotic therapy was instituted. Physicians should be aware of the pathogenic potential of A. actinomycetemcomitans in pediatric patients.
