Evaluation of Leptotrombidium (Leptotrombidium) fletcheri (Acari: Trombiculidae) as a potential vector of Ehrlichia sennetsu

Zusammenfassung: | Leptotrombidium (Leptotrombidium) fletcheri (Womersley & Heaslip), whether naturally infected with Rickettsia tsutsugamushi (Nagayo et al.) or from a R. tsutsugamushi -free colony, failed to acquire or transmit Ehrlichia sennetsu (Misao & Kobayashi) after feeding on mice experimentally infected with E. sennetsu by intraperitoneal injection. Presence of R. tsutsugamushi organisms in potential vector mites does not enhance establishment of E. sennetsu in mite tissues. |
