Zusammenfassung:	Extremity fractures frequently occur at the time of spinal cord injury. Fractures immobilized by external fixation devices interfere with patient positioning and predispose to trophic ulcers. The devices also interfere with joint motion. Incorrect application may delay rather than promote fracture union. Patients with spinal cord injuries require appropriate fracture management.
