Zusammenfassung:The DNA of the nuclear polyhedrosis virus (SLNPV), which attacks the major crop pest, Spodoptera littoralis, was isolated and characterized by physical techniques and compared to host caterpillar DNA. The CsCl buoyant density, thermal denaturation midpoint, and thermal renaturability of the two DNAs were found to differ. DNA of the same buoyant density as viral DNA was detected in noninoculated and apprently healthy caterpillar populations suggesting a latent virus infection of S. littoralis.
