Inhibition of entry of Plasmodium falciparum and P. vivax sporozoites into cultured cells; an in vitro assay of protective antibodies

Plasmodium falciparum, P. vivax, specific inhibition of sporozoite internalization into cultured human hepatoma cells by (a) monoclonal antibodies raised against sporozoites of these species, (b) polyclonal sera obtained from sprozoite-immunized and protected human volunteers, and (c) sera obtained from individuals living in area of hyperendemic malaria, this inhibition of sporozoite invasion (ISI) assay may have potential use as in vitro technique for detection of protective anti-sporozoite antibodies
