The anatomy of restrictive lung disease

Restrictive lung disease in its widest sense is a disorder that can result from many varied causes involving not only the lung parenchyma but also the pleura and interlbular septa, the chest wall, and the neuromuscular mechanisms involved in respiration. These diverse anatomic lesions all result in similar functional abnormalities with, finally, death from respiratory failure or corpulmonale.
