Zusammenfassung: | Nine older patients sought medical attention because of malaise and fatigue. Each had a hypoproliferative anemia and their hematocrits ranged from 27 to 32%. When an erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) exceeded 100 mm/hr the temporal artery was biopsied. Giant cell arteritis was found in 4 biopsies and 2 others showed focal calcification. All patients were given corticosteroids and their symptoms improved rapidly, hematocrit values rose, and ESR fell. |
