Zusammenfassung: | Nine different strains of Eperythrozoon wenyoni were tested in splenectomised calves, which all produced characteristic metabolic changes in the blood. These changes consisted of a lowered pH of the blood, a negative base excess and a lowered standard bicarbonate content. There was an increase in the lactic acid content of the blood. This increase was mainly found in the plasma fraction of the blood and not in the erythrocytes. No correlation was found between the presence of free forms in the plasma and changes in the pH of the blood. Various explanations for the production of lactic acid in the course of an E. wenyoni infection are discussed. |
