Dopamine receptors in the denervated striatum: further supersensitivity by chronic haloperidol treatment

The authors have studied the effects of chronic haloperidol exposure and denervation on rat striatal DA receptors. Effects of denervation and receptor blockade on the striatal membrane binding of the putative D2 dopmaine radioligand, ( super(3)H)spiperone, were found to be additive. As in the nucleu...

Zusammenfassung:The authors have studied the effects of chronic haloperidol exposure and denervation on rat striatal DA receptors. Effects of denervation and receptor blockade on the striatal membrane binding of the putative D2 dopmaine radioligand, ( super(3)H)spiperone, were found to be additive. As in the nucleus accumbens, DA receptor up-regulation after receptor blokage or denervation may occur through separate mechanisms.
