Zusammenfassung:	A 70 year-old- Japanese man underwent gastrectomy for early gastric cancer with preoperative hypocellular marrow. Three weeks later, acute myelomonocytic leukemia developed with tetrasomy for chromosome 8 (48,XY,+8,+8). The patient died of leukemia on the 33rd postoperative day. Whether or not the operation triggered the leukemia remains unknown.
