Zusammenfassung: | Both vasopressin and oxytocin have been shown to exert behavioral effects by a direct action on the central nervous system. Oxytocin appears to have amnestic properties as concluded among others from the attenuation of passive avoidance behavior and the facilitation of extinction of active avoidance behavior following intracerebroventricular administration of this neuropeptide. In contrast a variety of behavioral effects have been described indicating that vasopressin stimulates memory function. In this review these effects of vasopressin will be described in detail. |
