Synthesis and assembly of lung surfactant

The purpose of this review is to summarize our current understanding of (a) the pathways and regulation of synthesis of surfactant lipids, (b) the synthesis and processing of surfactant proteins, and (c) the coalescence of these components to form lamellar bodies.
