Zusammenfassung:Sixty-one femoral shaft fractures in 59 patients treated with the AO closed method of medullary nailing are presented. The technical advantages of the procedure are highlighted. More than 50 per cent of patients progressed to full weight bearing by the end of the eighth week. Knee flexion was full in 80 per cent. The only complications that occurred were two wound infections, which resolved, and one case of fat embolism, which was successfully treated.
