Zusammenfassung:The localization of substance P in the human post-mortem brainstem is studied by the indirect immunofluorescence technique. Positive neuronal cell bodies, nerve fibers and terminals are unevenly present over both sensory and effector areas and nuclei. The pattern of distribution of substance P in the human brainstem, similar to that seen in the laboratory animals, supports the hypothesis of a neurotransmitter role of this compound in man.
