Zusammenfassung:The effects of vanadate on the protein kinase activity in the rat heart were investigated. Vanadate produced a marked increase of protein kinase activity and of cyclic AMP and cyclic GMP levels in rat heart strips. Vanadate also increased the activity of both the holoenzyme and the catalytic subunit from beef heart in in vitro experiments. These results indicate that vanadate affects the protein kinase activity of the heart (a phenomenon probably related to its inotropic effect); the same results and more data in support of a general regulatory role for vanadate.
