Zusammenfassung:	A reengineering of the delivery of care at St. Elsewhere CVL (a disguised name), a highly profitable 3-suite cardiovascular service facility located in the Midwest that is part of a health system's flagship 800-bed tertiary care hospital, is discussed. There were serious cracks in the foundation that, left unchecked, could threaten the lab's continued success. In the approach to reengineering, the emphasis is on getting an accurate snapshot of the existing situation. In all, there were 10 intervention highlights in the reengineering. The changes are described.
