Patent Processus Vaginalis

A 31-year-old male patient on continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) for three months developed gradually worsening right scrotal swelling. Symptoms became worse on standing. To assess the possibility of a patent processus vaginalis, 4 mCi of Tc-99m SC was infused with the patientʼs dialysate. This examination clearly demonstrated the abdominal wall defect. To prevent the development of an indirect inguinal hernia, operative ligation of the patent processus vaginalis was performed, causing relief of the patientʼs symptoms.
