Zusammenfassung:	A 59-year-old man had radiation therapy for rectal carcinoma. Because of ensuing bowel problems and poor nutritional intake, he was referred for a bone densitometry examination. The lumbar area revealed massive uptake adjacent to and behind the vertebral column. This proved to be an intraabdominal abscess. The aberrant collection was no longer noticeable after drainage of the abscess.
