Zusammenfassung:The present article describes the migration of Sri Lankan female migrants to the Middle East. Attention is dedicated to the working and living conditions of these women in the Middle East. Also the effect of labour migration is examined on the different levels of Sri Lankan society; the state, the family and the individual woman. The article was written before the unfortunate events in the Gulf took place. Therefore, the migration patterns of Sri Lankan females may, at the moment the article is published, have completely changed.
