Zusammenfassung:New studies have brought Drosophila geneticists face to face with some perplexing questions about proteoglycans and their role in growth factor signaling. Three papers published in Development report that mutations in the gene encoding UDP-glucose dehydrogenase disrupt both the synthesis of glycosaminoglycans and WINGLESS/WNT signaling, while a fourth paper provides evidence that TGF- beta /DPP signaling is regulated by the proteoglycan DALLY.
