Peripheral nerve injuries: principles of surgical management and outcome

The author reviews the neuroanatomical and physiological principles underlying surgical repair of injured peripheral nerves. Current surgical techniques are presented and the need for a comprehensive scale of assessment of neurologic recovery is emphasized.
