Zusammenfassung: | Examines the appropriate allocation of health care technologies, eg, genetic engineering, safe abortion, intensive care, organ transplant processes, & assisted reproduction, & the ethical considerations of advertising in the marketplace of modern medicine. Tensions in health care between patient & market-centered ethics are discussed in terms of medical professional regulation. The historical background of advertising in the medical profession is considered, arguing that, in the modern era, sophisticated advertising distorts market choices. The manipulation of the unconscious wants & desires of consumers, frequently targeting specfic markets such as teenagers & women, often takes precedence over the ethical standard of truth in advertising. Regulation is advocated to protect the common interest. 11 References. A. M. Grounds |
