The Effects of Liability Fears

To the Editor: The truly deadly effect that the malpractice crisis is having on medical education is buried in the last few paragraphs of the Sounding Board by Challoner et al. (Dec. 15 issue)* on the effects of the liability climate on the academic health center. The authors are suggesting that we avoid opportunities for medical education when they say that "from the perspective of professional liability we advise our faculty to discuss any complications only within the confines of a duly constituted medical review committee."
