Zusammenfassung:Falling infant and childhood mortality rates, especially in urban centres, have allowed greater survival of individuals with sickle-cell disorders (SCD), and the need to provide appropriate services has become pressing. The training and employment of counsellors on SCD, shown here to be popular and feasible, seems an essential first step towards the development of a community-based and appropriate policy for coping with SCD in Africa.
