Defective homocysteine metabolism as a risk factor for diabetic retinopathy

The association of the methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) gene polymorphism with diabetic retinopathy was investigated in Japanese individuals with non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus. The genotype distribution and prevalence of the mutated MTHFR allele was compared.
