Zusammenfassung:This report describes a modified plaque forming assay which has been used for quantitation of infectious human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in cell culture supernatant fluid. The number of infectious units determined by the plaque assay correlates closely with the 50% infectious dose determined by a conventional assay in cell culture. In contrast, particle associated reverse transcriptase (RT) activity correlates poorly with the amount of infectious HIV present in culture supernatant fluids.
