Optical imaging of neuronal activity

The results discussed indicate that optical recording has already provided new and previously unobtainable information about the function of the nervous system at various levels of complexity from single growth cones or nerve terminals to the living mammalian brain. In the past most of the research effort was focused on improvements of the technology and its exploitation in new directions. Therefore the technique is now far more developed for widespread use.
