Cutaneous Infection Caused by Tsukamurella paurometabolum

Tsukamurella paurometabolum is a gram-positive, slightly or variably acid-fast, nonmotile, obligate, aerobic bacillus that can be isolated from soil. T. paurometabolum was previously known as Gordona aurantiaca, Rhodococcus aurantiacus, and Corynebacterium paurometabolum; it has caused chronic lung infections, subcutaneous abscesses and necrotizing tenosynovitis, meningitis in a patient with hairy-cell leukemia, and catheter-related bacteremia in patients with cancer and a patient undergoing hemodialysis. We report, to our knowledge, the first case of cutaneous infection due to T. paurometabolum.
