Tc-99m DMSA (V) Uptake in Multiorgan Amyloidosis

The authors present an unusual Tc-99m DMSA (V) scan showing sites of abnormal uptake in the thyroid gland oropharynx, both parotid and submandibular glands, bilateral axillary nodes, and the myocardium in a patient with a solitary thyroid nodule. Most of these sites were later shown to be amyloid deposits without any metastatic spread. The report suggests the advantage of amyloidosis scintigraphy with DMSA (V) because of whole body coverage and identification of unsuspected sites of involvement.
