Zusammenfassung: | Solitary hepatic abscess rarely occurs during the neonatal period. It has been reported as a complication of umbilical venous catheterization, omphalitis and peritonitis. The authors describe a 5-day-old with transient Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia who presented 2 months later with a solitary hepatic abscess caused by the same organism. The infant recovered uneventfully following surgical drainage and antimicrobial therapy. To the authors' knowledge this is the first solitary hepatic abscess attributable to neonatal bacteremia. |
