Zusammenfassung:	A fecal-agar pellet was placed in the peritoneal cavity of male Sprague-Dawley rats. A suspension of trimethoprim and sulfamethoxazole was received twice daily. The metronidazole sc injections were given daily. HBO treatments began 1 h after the inoculation of bacteria into the peritoneal cavity. Hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) may be used to restore oxygen tensions in infected tissues. The authors tested the effects of HBO in a highly reproducible model of intraabdominal infection. The use of HBO alone did not result in beneficial effects.
