Axonal transport of neuroreceptors: Possible involvement in long-term memory

Zusammenfassung:Evidence is presented that neuroreceptors move bidirectionally along axons of neurons through fast axoplasmic transport mechanisms. The retrograde transport of receptor-bound signal molecules from nerve terminals to the perikaryon represents a corridor of information between synapses and the cell body of neurons. It is speculated that this process could be involved in long-term memory.
