Zusammenfassung:It is hypothesized that the brain's incapacity to utilize energy sources other than glucose and ketone bodies, constitutes a mechanism of protecting it from self degradation, at the expense of the rest of the body, during periods of starvation. This protection is based upon the brain's inability to catabolize substances of which it is built, for energy production.
