Zusammenfassung: | Studies in experimental animals and humans have demonstrated that amphotericin B (AmB) may be detectable in urine for several days to weeks following a single iv dose. Moreover, for prolonged periods, urine levels of AmB exceed the MIC reported for prolonged periods, urine levels of AmB exceed the MIC reported for many species of Candida . These findings suggest that the slow renal excretion of AmB could be advantageously used to treat urinary tract infections caused by Candida , irrespective of their location in the urinary tract. To test this hypothesis, the authors have begun a study using a single therapeutic dose of AmB in patients with persistent candiduria. They report here their preliminary data. |
