Verifying Clinical Competence in Critical Care

The establishment of clinical competence is greatly important for critical care nurses, the employing agencies, and consumers of health care services. Careful assessment of both new and experienced critical care nurses must be accomplished in a nonthreatening manner, so that cognitive and psychomotor skills can be objectively evaluated. The authors describe a program developed to verify clinical competence of critical care nurses.
