Solution oriented management: an alternative approach

Staff nurses must be given decision-making authority. Solution-oriented management fosters autonomy - it assumes that professional nurses can find solutions to patient care and other work-related problems. Solution oriented management provides a pragmatic method to engage in participatory management and cultivate collegial partnerships with staff, thus nurses create their own solutions to problems encountered in the practice environment.
