Zusammenfassung:	There are a number of factors that contribute to the difficulty in isolating Bordetella pertussis. These factors include specimen choice (throat swab, nasopharyngeal swab, suction aspirate of the nasopharynx), swab material, collection, transport, prior therapy and culture techniques. The aim of this study was to analyze the isolation rate of B. pertussis from various upper respiratory tract specimens in patients with paroxysmal cough, treated at the University Hospital of Infectious Diseases, Zagreb, Croatia.
