Zusammenfassung:An additive major gene effect is described for tyrosine hydroxylase activity in mouse corpus striatum (CS). Quantitative genetic analysis indicated the presence of a segregating Mendelian factor with robust additive effect in F2 generations derived from crossing two highly inbred mouse strains, C57BL/6ByJ and BALB/cJ, with intermediate (INT) and high (HI) TH activity in CS. Significant positive correlation was found between striatal and mesencephalic TH activity in the segregating generations, raising the possibility that a common single gene may express its effect through pleiotropy or linkage. Genetic preparations taking advantage of the major gene effect should serve well as animal models of DA-mediated neuropsychiatric disorders.
