An Examination of the Relationship Between Chartered Accountants' Demographic Backgrounds and Professional Examination Performance

Using questionnaires, Brierley examined the relationship of gender, marital status, parental status, residence near a close relative, department, office location, and place of employment to the ability to pass the professional examinations of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales at the first attempt. There was a significant association between being male and professional examination success among the participants employed in London offices.
