Work process redesign: a hospital learning experience

Eight nurses at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center gather every week to continue what is called variously "corporate restructuring" or "radical design of a system." To address today's challenges, UMMC adopted total quality management, whch has changed profoundly how nurses see their work and their newfound responsibility, authority, and accountability.
