Direct observation of tryptophan biosynthesis in Escherichia coli by carbon-13 nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy

Zusammenfassung:Carbon-13 nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy has been applied to the direct monitoring of L-tryptophan biosynthesis in genetically modified E. coli . To monitor tryptophan production in a fermentor, a device was constructed that allowed the continuous pumping of ferment directly into and out of a special NMR tube while growth of the culture was maintained.
